Harvesting Hope is an ecumenical, multicultural, and charitable organization working to improve the housing and health of farmworkers.

We are an independent not-for-profit organization, working in collaboration with churches and farmworker agencies in the Greater Rochester, NY area.

We seek to build bridges of respectful and caring relationships between farmers, farmworkers and people of faith.

As an ecumenical Christian organization, we draw inspiration from God's unconditional love for the foreigner and stranger, and from the life and teachings of Jesus, particularly the Gospel mandates to love one another and to practice hospitality.

Some of us are farmworkers, others of us have worked with farmworkers - in the areas of health, education, ministry and social services - for many years.

We are aware of a need for short-term emergency housing for farmworkers. Oftentimes when migrant farmworkers arrive to our area looking for work, they live out of their cars or vans until they can find a farm job that includes housing. Sometimes, families of 4-6 people, including young children, are living out of their vehicles for weeks at a time.

If a farmworker is injured, or ill, or recuperating from a hospitalization or surgery, and is unable to work they are often without housing, and without any form of "safety net."

Our primary objective is to be able to provide emergency short-term housing for farmworkers in need.

Some of our other initiatives include:

Baby Basics: In collaboration with Oak Orchard Health Center, and the midwives who deliver the babies of migrant farmworker women at Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport, NY, we are accepting donations of gently used car seats, cribs, strollers, and infant clothing for new mothers.

Healthy Recreation: To provide farmworkers with healthy alternatives for their evening hours, we are accepting donations of soccer balls, and reading materials in English or Spanish.

Camp Alegria: We would like to help provide the children of migrant farmworkers with summer camp experiences... to allow them the opportunity of unbridled youthful joy and recreation. We are accepting financial contributions to assist with this undertaking.

Our programming will expand as our support base grows; yet we remain committed to not duplicating the services of other agencies or ministries.

Farmworkers in our area work hard and suffer great hardships to provide us with fresh fruits and vegetables. We extend to them our gratitude, and a welcoming hand.

We are in need of financial contributions, prayers, and people who share our vision. As we have no paid staff or overhead expenses, 100% of donations will be used to the direct benefit of farmworkers.
